I have been learning about using layer masks in Photoshop Elements 6. There isn't anything you can't find on the internet - with tutorials too! I found an application to download a different mask (Free) than the one already in Elements that lets me adjust it more.
Also I found a great blog where there are wonderful textures by Jerry Jones at Shadowhouse Creations to download free of charge.
There are two of Jerry's textures in this picture. The words you see on the green strip are a scan from a one hundred year old textbook. This altered photo was fun to do. The color scheme was taken from the flower.

i don't do textures or layers or blurs or anything, but i like that a lot!!! very complimentary colors and great detail on the bloom! :)
I also do not do anything that requires research or time...tho someday, I might actually get into doing some scrapbooking for the family...operative word...might! Ha!
It's always so late before I sit here and fiddle and I'm just getting too old...I do love, Love, LOVE what you've done here tho. These days, I'm lucky to leave a few comments...so I will just follow you to learn., ok?

I don't use elements either, even though I have it and Lightroom on my computer. I am more into photography rathr than post processing. I was given 'Aperture" for Christmas and I am ploughing through the lesson book . It is fun learning the program but I am slow and will forget half the stuff I learn.
From a photographers point of view I think the background is too busy. If the whole background was the left hand side check pattern it would enhance the flower more and the text. The bloom is beautifully captured. There is not enough contrast between the colour of the bloom and text with the centre panel colour in the background. Hope this is the type of comment you wanted, I don't mean to be critical but helpful.
Learning is part of the fun. I would not be much of a help as I do not have Photoshop. I do love the photo, the colors and the words. Great photo, have a wonderful weekend!
I think it's beautiful, you did a lovely job on that photo. I have no constructive criticism because I like it very much. Beautiful textures and colors. Well done!
I find myself staring at his flower and wondering what it is. At first glance, I thought it was Chianti Sunflower, which I have grown in the past. I rather like the background. I find it a nice complement to the flower. I think the text is great, because we all know that flowers follow the sun. I think it is very nicely done! Also, I would like to try some of photo work myself.
I like what you've done with this. I learned Textures in a class and then never used it. Everyone has their own style and this one worked well for you:-)
Photography is so interesting and the world of creativity software and the internet has opened up for us is unbelievable. Your creations are very pleasing to the eye. I can't think of anything I would change to improve on this. Beautiful!
